A clear tech pack helps an underwear factory understand what to make, how to measure it and which details must be approved before bulk production. It does not need to be visually elaborate, but it should remove ambiguity from the product.
Buyers without a complete tech pack can still begin with a reference sample, product photos or a detailed sketch. The checklist below shows the information that makes men’s underwear sample development faster and more accurate.
1. Product Overview
Start with a short product identification section. Include the style name or code, product category, intended customer and development version. State whether the product is a brief, trunk, boxer brief, long-leg style or performance garment.
Add front, back and side sketches when possible. Mark important construction details directly on the drawings, including seam positions, pouch shape, fly construction, leg length and waistband width. A physical reference sample can also help communicate silhouette and fit.
2. Fabric Specification
List the desired fiber composition, fabric type, weight, stretch direction, hand feel and finish. For example, “95% cotton, 5% elastane single jersey” is more useful than simply writing “cotton.” If exact specifications are not known, describe the intended performance such as soft everyday comfort, lightweight breathability or moisture management.

3. Measurement Chart
A measurement chart should identify the sample size, measurement points, target values and tolerances. Common points for men’s underwear include:
- Relaxed and extended waistband width
- Front and back rise
- Side seam length
- Inseam length for boxer briefs and trunks
- Leg opening
- Pouch width and length
- Fly opening position, if applicable
Use a diagram to show exactly where each measurement starts and ends. Different companies may measure curved or stretched areas differently, so visual measurement instructions prevent confusion.
4. Size Grading
Specify the size range and the grade between sizes. If only one base-size measurement chart is available, state the target market and provide a preferred body-size chart. The factory can then review whether the proposed grading is suitable for the style and fabric stretch.
Fit should be approved on the development sample before the full size set is confirmed. Changes to rise, leg opening or pouch volume can affect several measurement points at once.
5. Construction Details
Identify seam type, stitch appearance, thread color, reinforcement areas and edge finishing. Underwear often uses flatlock, coverstitch, overlock or bonded details depending on the product. Performance styles may require smooth seams or mesh panels, while daily basics may prioritize durability and production efficiency.
Photographs of a preferred seam can be more effective than an unfamiliar technical term. Mark each photo with the location where the construction should be used.
6. Waistband Specification
State the waistband width, material, color, logo size, logo repeat and inside finish. For jacquard or printed elastic, provide vector artwork and identify the approved brand colors. A center-front logo needs a placement reference because the waistband must be cut and joined accordingly.

7. Branding and Label Placement
Provide editable logo artwork where possible. Mark the size, color and position for heat transfers, prints, embroidery or labels. Include main label, size label, care label and country-of-origin information.
Care instructions and fiber content must match the confirmed materials and destination-market requirements. Final legal labeling should be reviewed by the buyer or a qualified compliance specialist for the target market.
8. Packaging Instructions
Define whether products are packed individually or as multi-packs. Include folding method, polybag or box dimensions, size sticker, barcode, hangtag, insert and carton-mark requirements. For marketplace orders, add any platform-specific preparation instructions.

9. Sample Review Comments
Return sample comments in one organized document. Number each comment, add a photograph or marked-up image and state the requested change. Separate confirmed points from items that still need action. Avoid sending important revisions across several disconnected messages.
After revisions, update the tech pack version number and date. The approved specification should become the reference for the pre-production sample and bulk inspection.
10. Commercial Information
Include the estimated order quantity, color breakdown, size ratio, target price range, delivery country and required completion date. These details allow the factory to assess material minimums, production timing and packaging preparation together.
